Rosedale

The afternoon of 5/28/1903 found our
venerable Asso. assembled at Rosedale.
Four members were unavoidably absent but
we had the kindly assistance of several
guests in making nearly the average
number of contributors. Ellen Stabler,
Frances Snowden, Mary and Elizabeth Scott,
Mary A. Gilpin, & Mrs. Smith & daughter of
Ashton, being present. After reading the
two sets of minutes as usual the
Secy. turned to a little old book wherein
were recorded the first minutes of
the Asso. on 5/1/1857, and read them
and the brief and admirable constitution
which she has always understood
was partly the works of William Henry
Farquhar & wife, and partly of Benj. Rush
Roberts & wife. The sentiment of the
day was a bit of pratical religion
from Friends Intelligencer;
"Despise not the little things.
A word of one syllable, a nod of the
head, a motion of the hand are each
small, but they are frequently the difference
between truth & falsehood, between
right & wrong." Albina O Stabler gave
a few pungent paragraphs, one of
which declared it was far sweeter to
leave "laffy" while living than "epitaphy"
after death. Sarah T. Miller read a
poem entitled "Let the Child be a Child,"
which was a musical version of
Mother Gooses' verse rhyme, "Shoe the
horse & shoe the mare, but let the little
colt go bare." She also offered a second
selection assuring us that the grandest
lives are before us and not things
of the past as many suppose after reading
history and biography. Mary G.
Colt had what she termed "the latest incubator
story", of some eggs hatched out
