In 1917 Dr. and Mrs. Henry Janney Nichols with their two children
Janney and Mary Reading moved from Georgetown to Sandy Spring Mrs. Nichols
having inherited the old Holland farm near "Holland's Corner", and known as
"The Maples".

With the farm " The Association" decreed that she had also inherited
Miss Martha Holland's membership in that Society.

For eighteen years she was a valued and interested member with her
cheerful outlook on life and herinvariably worth while contibutions to
the programs of the meetings. Her point of view was so balanced and
uplifting and her vision so broad that followship with her was a privelege indeed.

"The Association" mourns her passing.

"With steady search along the travelled highway,
And by the churchyard wall we go;
But leave behind, beneath the forest shadows
One who no more still rise and do.

Along the street where neighbor nods to neighbor
Along the busy street we throng,
Once more to laugh, to live and love and labor -
But she will be remembered long.

Farewell true heart and kindly hand left lying
Where wave the forest branches calm;
Farewell our friend."
