I took and kept for "curiosity" –

I'm as struck here at first with
the difference in dress and address
of my persecutors, from any thing I
had been used to seeing & hearing;
and at the same time it was a curious
thing to find the same kind of people
addressing me in the same language
at such a distance from home!!

It was very hodd to see the little
boys dress'd in breeches; a garment
seldom used in our country except
by old men, and the "Mrs Hossegoods"
a class or family of Ladies sometimes
found in the states of —— (matrimony
?) It was hequally hodd to ear them
aving so much to say about the
"ouses", hand "orses", hand "eavy trunks"
hand "heggs" &cc for we have
generally thought, the name of a
nation, gave the title to its language;
but not so — It is called "Hinglish"
and perhaps rightly, – but it is
not American English. With our
Captain, Ed Harris & Wife we got into
a coach and drove to the boardg
house kept by H Richards, wife the
late lamented & highly respected
