of Washington Irving, died at Sunnyside last
Saturday evening. He was born in the year 1775
and was therefore at the time of his death, 94
years old. During the life of his brother he was
his business agent, and received by his will the
country seat of Sunnyside. He leaves tow sons
and two daughters.

The thousandth anniversary of the foundation
of the kingdom of Hungary is approaching, and
people are discussing the way in which the memory
of so rare an event in the political history of
Europe ought to be perpetuated. Some propose
the erection of a colossal obelisk on one of the
vast plains of Hungary, others perfer a national
Pantheon on the mountain which overlooks the
capital.

General Robert E Lee declines to deliver an address
before the Middle Georgia Tanner's and
Mechanics' Club at the annual fair in October
owing to the pressure of college duties, but he
closes his letter with these words: "There is no
subject upon which the material interests of the
country now so much depend, in my opinion, and
upon agriculture, nor is there one more worth
of the earnest attention of the people of Georgia."
