Dear Ernest,

Another year has gone and left behind its record.

I am happy to congratulate you and wish for you in the coming year many blessings and pleasure.

Today with the country in a terrible war and the many sad lonely mothers seems to take me back to that unhappy time when alone with only a

faithful colored woman you came a wee baby. To prove to me in after years a blessing and great pride in your love and care. May you too have your son long to be a treasure.

I am wondering how John is trust he is improving; We are having quite warm weather. All are looking for rain. Am glad Beth can be with you. What a comfort loving children are in times of sickness of trial. I can speak from experience.
