Austrian Vice-Consulate Mobile June 26, 1862

Mr. Johann A Steinbeck native of Dusseldorf in Prussia appeared before me in person and assents under oath, that he is a citizen of Prussia. I therefore request all civil and military authorities to tender Mr. Johann Steinbeck all protection to which a Prussian subject may be entitled. —

In absence of a Consul of his Majesty the King of Prussia, I have by authority of the imperial Government and at the request of Mr Steinbeck issued this certificate.
