upon the R.R. at Pollard & that we
were to go & whip them back. A Miss.
Reg. left Mobile the day before & a fight
was certain. All the forces are commanded
by Gen. Jones. A little after dark we
arived at Pollard & camped without
tents near the depot.
Friday May 30. This morning finds
us here, but no prospects for a fight
the people here seem allmost ignorant
of any Yankees. It is reported that some
Pickets of ours were killed & taken by
the federals, but you hear nothing but
rumors. One of our men had his gun
cartridge & knapsack stolen from
the cars & they nowhere be found.
At last suspision th was thrown
upon an negro who was round
