going to. An address by Gen. Bragg to armee
of his comand was also read to us this afternoon
failed to bring forth cheers. About 8 oclock at last
we camped besides the river. After all the fatigue
I had to go on guard, from 9 to 11 oclock.
Sunday 7 Sept. This morning they roused us up at
½ past two oclock, & about ½ past 3 oclock we started.
Our comp. was ordered to be Brigade rear guard.
We marched way behind the Comp. so that we did not get
so much dust today. From Spencer to Sparta are 15 miles
& about 12 oclock m we arived in camp about 3/4 mile
on the other side of Sparta. We passed through a pleasant
part of Tenn. Very mountainous but a good deal
cultivated. In the door of a log cabin a pretty woman
blessed us with one of her sweetest smiles the first
one I believe that they have favoured us with since
our march. We are encamped now.
Yesterday 1 Liut 1 Serg. & one private were sent
