we could proceed. The shower however did not extand
itself a great ways for after we got along about three
miles the road was dry again. We passed through
the town of Glasgow a pretty place with very good
looking women who waved Confederate flags some
which were not quite finished. We marched through
a good part of night & did not stop till we came
to Cave City, a little place on the Nashville & Ohio
R.R. We must have come at least 16-17 miles.
A great many troops are here. The surrounding
country is beautiful. I hear
Tuesday Sept 16. I hear just now from our Liut. Dunham
who was in town, that a part of the wounded
are here. The fight was about 10 miles from here,
before our men were aware of it they were among
the Yankee fortifications. Our men were only
about 1200 the Fed. force about 4 to 5,000.
They killed & wounded of our men 39 killed & 280 wounded. What
the Yankees loss unknown.
