Saturday Sept 27. On board the Cin-
cinatti mail steamer. Since I wrote
last I had this book stolen from one of
the Union soldiers. The boys asked me
something which made me look into it
& then put it under my head. The above
named soldier got up in the night stole
another mans blanket & changed his guns & de-
camped. The next day the man who had his
blanket stolen met him again & found also the book
in his provision. I am now dressed in a
Union uniform. Which on of the men
gave me on the Road & now nobody knows
me as many men march without arms.
