At last he came, but he knew that I was anxious
to get to my dear once, & he told me that he had a
friend a Engineer, whose train would leave
tomorrow morning (a freight train) & that he would
ask to get me aboard. So I stayed there, & slept
on a good comfortable bed a luxury to which I
had a stranger for nearly 7 month. Monday Sept
29. About 3 oclock Mr. D. Duer, my kind
host, woke me up, & went with me to the train
he spoke to the Engineer Mr. Auger, & he
readily consented to take me along as far as he should
go to Columbus O. arived there a little before
sundown, & Mr. Auger kindly went with
me to another engineer Sam. Welch whose
train was about leaving for Cleaveland O.
I got aboard & we started. Soon after the Conductor
came forward on the Engine & seeing I was
tired & weary, told me to go back to the
