to me I showed my parole, & he told me to
wait as the train would not leave before ten
oclock, & that he would see me of. Sure enough
at ten oclock the Pass. train started & I with it
in a second class car to Buffalo N.Y. where
we arived about 6 oclock p.m. the same day.
But here I did not meet with such apparent
good luck for they would not take me along.
I looked then for a lodging for the night & with
some difficulty succeeded. In A gentleman
told me in the course of the evening that I could
very easy could get away on the canal, &
he would go with me in the morning to show
me the place. Wednesday Oct 1. about
7 oclock I went to the canal, & the first
captain I asked told me that he would take
me along. I told him that I do what I could
in assisting on the boat. He said all
