A singular kind Providence was with me also
to day. As I was waiting in the dark a Policeman
came up to me & in a very kind manner asked me if
I had a fourlough, taking me for a federal soldier.
I showed him my parole & spoke to him of my circum-
stance. He advised me to go & see the Agent of the [Steamship?] & that he [would?]
surly pass me along. I did so, & thank the goodness
of God. He gave me a pass right to Harvard.
At 5 oclock the steamer “City of Boston” left for
New London Mass. were we had to take
the Cars. Went with the cars to Worcester Mass
were I am now at ½ pass 5 oclock a m.
waiting for the Nashua train to come to take
me to Harvard, which will be about 7 oclock,
in an hour or a little over. I hope that that
happy hour for which I have been [waiting?]
hoping wishing & praying [so?] long shall
have come at last.
