April 1861 -
borrowed 200 two Dollars from
Liut [Drysdale?].

From [T. Aviee?] 1.70 c. to be paiy to
him by Mr. Cook & myself.

at an Hotel, & in the morning went
out on the Canal to see if I could not get
a chance to go with one of the canal boats.
The first Captain I met & asked told me
that I could go with him that he would not
charge me anything nor for board. So
I am on the Erie Canal & on the boat
called West Wind. I help all I can
pump out & do what I can. It is aparent
me some as it take me no mind the [longer?]
but still I have great reason to thankful to
Him who has (rest of entry illegible, overlapping with other words).
