30 Sunday. This morning we were aroused early by a rap
at our door Mr Jones calling, “If you want to see a beautiful
sunrise come on deck.” We were soon dressed and went
up. The sun was just rising above he horizon sheding a
golden hue over the sea and far up in the clouds
forming lovely fantastic shapes. The sea lay in one
broad smooth sheet without a ripple to disturb its waters.
All around was calm and serene and continued so through
the day being warm a our June. There are many sails around
us. One Dutch ship came close beside us. I was looking
at it through the Captains glass when an old gray headed
man pushed his bare head up over the railing of the
deck. I sprang with an involuntary Oh! I thought he
was close beside me. It made a good laugh at my expense.

31 Monday. Not feeling well kept my berth until noon. In
the afternoon went on deck. All around are mountains
