and usually contended. Last evening I was alone in the cabin
it was early but the sick ones had gone to their berths I
was thinking of my old home, and friends there, and was
no doubt a little homesick after a while of dreaming I
commenced “The Expedition to the Dead Sea”
Mr Jones came down from deck and commenced to talk
about the book, then to other works of travel. He got his
Edinburg Atlas and we spent a pleasant evening following
missionaries and travellers in their journeying to different
countries. I forgot my homesick feeling and upon retiring
went to sleep and dreamed of dear friends.

Nov 14 Mr Trask came down this morning bringing a
brown bird resembling a snipe. It had a long slender bill
and long feet and legs. We thought it pretty. But when
we put our hands towards it, the bird would snap and
bite ever so crossly. Mr Trask tied a white string about
its neck and it flew away. Saw a peculiar ship this
afternoon, her sails were patched with different
colors and flopped about. Soon she approached us
