It still continues to rain, and a head wind. The Captain says as
it is the rainy season in the east we will have unsettled weather.
Two Turkish ship came near us today, they looked queer.
Nov 29. Have been nearly sick the past few days. Have neuraligia
in my face. Mary steamed my face and burned a blister.
We are beating about among the islands, and our progress is
slow. The islands look barren and rocky. One was a large
white building which Mr Trask said probably was the tomb
of a Moslem Saint. We saw the dim outlines of the Isle of
Patinos. We can trace St Paul’s travels as recorded in Acts
20, 21. It seem real, being the same islands.
Nov 30. Captain thought to reach Smyrna today, but an
unfavorable wind kept us beating about for another day.
We have been out fifty days, eighteen on the Atlantic
and thirty two on the Mediterrean. Having so much rain
lately soft water is plentiful. So Mrs Blanchard did
quite a washing today, drying the clothes on deck. Afternoon
she ironed. Seemed quite being on land.
Dec 1st. Still another night of peril. A heavy wind blowing
