The future is unknown to us, and it is a wise providence who
has so directed. We are often with you in Spirit, and in dreams.
May peace and happiness dwell with you.

Dec 3d Saturday. The storm continued until this morning
when the rain erased but the wind continues to blow hard
the night was intensely dark, we were hemmed in by rocks
and islands, and tossed at the mercy of big waves. Thursday
night the Captain told us not to be alarmed but he would
advise us to remain dressed as in case of accident it would
be better, but we passed the night safely, and still another
of anxiety remaining, dressed, through the dreary nights.
This morning went on deck for a few minutes sitting flat
on the deck braced against the railing, the ship almost
on her side the railing nearly dipped the water. The bow
dipped a number of times. Once the sea came over the
bow and swept a sailor clear aft. The Captain has tried
in vain to reach a harbor to anchor. He says if the wind
remains in this quarter he will go back to the Straits of
Dora
and find anchorage. We are within a few hours of
