until tired we returned to the boat, and went aboard ship.
Here are no wharfs, a small landing is built for the accommodation
of little boats. Our vessel is anchored a mile from shore.
It is delightful these fine days sailing in a boat over the
smooth sea. At the ship a chair is rigged with ropes and
let down the side of the vessel, by means of a tackle we
are drawn up. It is a large arm chair with a cloth to wrap
about us. After tea we returned to the city to attend the
prayer meeting. The evening was fair and bright, and as
we sailed along sang hymns, which echoed far over the blue
water. There are three missionary families here Mr Ladd,
Parson and Morgan. They were very cordial and kind. The
meeting was pleasant, and profitable. Father and mother
remained on shore for the night. Mary and self returned
to the ship with the others.

Dec 9 Friday. At nine this morning we again went on shore
to meet our new friends and visit places of of interest. We
landed at the wrong place and had a long walk before
