demolished him. Mary said “You tell Aunt Rebecca that the
spiders here are so large it takes three persons to kill one
of them”

Feb 26 Mr Hersion from Jerusalem came to see us today.
He was a friend to Philip and was with him in his last
hours.

March 24 It has been cold and stormy. Heavy showers with
hail. In Jerusalem snow has fallen. We can see snow
on the mountains. The natives call it very cold, but as
we sit without a fire, we do not consider it so very cold.

Mary and I went to see some poor Arab women, who were
sitting in the cold air with only one loose garment on their
bodies. They pointed to our warm clothing saying “Entee
Kateen Kateen” “Anah Marfish”, meaning we had much while
they had little. They are grateful for small gifts we made
some clothing for some children, and the kiss on the hand
and gentle pat on our cheeck is their manner of saying thanks
