June 28 The Americans here took an excursion to the sea shore
and witnessed a Mahommadan feast. After we visited
the house of “Simon the Tanner”, Acts 10, 6. Gathered flowers
and stones from the house top.

July 4 Celebrated Independence day in this strange land
in the city of Jaffa, the ancient Joppa. All the Americans
were invited to met at the consulate where the consul
entertained them and served refreshments.

July 5 Sent letters to America

July 7 The consul with his wife, father mother and Henry
together with others of the missionaries went on a tour
through the country. They rode horseback. The consul
took a retinue of servants.

July 8 Received letters from America, telling us
that Grandmother Dickson had entered rest.

July 16 Sent letters to home friends.

July 24 Commenced studing Arabic with Mr, Jones

August 15 Sent letters to America
