At Bethlehem all kinds of trinkets and articles made from
olive wood, and stone taken from sacred places, mother of
pearl shell are offered for sale.

After visiting all spots of interest we went to the top of
high house and had a fine view of the surrounding country
then to the house of a Bethlemite and were served with
coffee, according to the custom of the country. Then we
returned to the convent, and went to the top of the building
to rest. Here we had an extensive view of the mountains
and villages. Saw the Frank mountain.

In this country all house tops are flat, and people sit and
walk, also spend their evenings on the “house top.”

After spending the night at the convent, early in the
morning we started for our return to Jerusalem
reaching there at noon. Spent the afternoon resting
at the convent where we stopped.

In the evening took tea at Mr Jones, in company
with Mr Roberts and Mr. and Mrs Denis
