Worked away at the new stove appara=
=tus - the greatest trouble is with the joints
we use copper nails for rivits and
Mr. Ohlsen our head workman is quite
expert. A careful estimate of the
dimensions of our pipe and the
required draught for given quantities
of fuel convince me that the present
plan will work economically whether
it will save our allowance is one
of those questions bigger undertakers
than myself might fail in answering -
I reserve myself for the trial.

Our decks are now in winter order
and our hard labour over - all we
have of direct necessity is this one
item of heat - to the slight difficulty of keeping from freezing -

The Therm: has been within
the past three days as [low] high as
-10° It is now down to -27° and
a prospect of cold weather again -
our meteorological observations show an
interesting correspondence between the
moon and temperature - our lowest
temperatures are directly connected with
full moon and its corresponding illumi
=nation.

Went to work at the Opus mag=
num - The Stove!

My present intention is so arrange the
pipe that it will part with nearly or all
of its heat both conducted and emitted
with the draught before it leaves our
cabin - The evils to health of a still
greater contraction of our rooms makes
me desirous of postponing this resource
to the last.
