Friday Mar 30.

This has been one of those days which leave for
the thouhgts of night time no pleasant recall,
listless, negative - and to an active mind,
depressing days. I write worn out with
real body labour - feeling as I supper a day
labourer must feel, and with just enough of
energy in me to feel is sympathy/ize for those whose
[?] is body labour - Petersen we sent after
birds and [?] and Bonsall worked at
the wood. My people are all the same -
no more changes for the worse, but all helpless
- all down, needing flesh and not strengthening
for the heavy labour so directly and soon ahead.

Petersen brings no birds. Hans still away.

intestines of a Ptarmagan - I shared with
him and we sat as men eating for a duty.

as a barometer - so do we all.

Petersen brought in Eight
Ptarmagan - the great number being probably due
to last nights warm wind - Feeling the importance
of strengthening the doubtful powers
of a few of the most convalescent of our
people. I dealt out, at once, a half bird
each. If I can raise one or two up to
such an extent as to make them aid the
rest a great load will be removed from
my mind - for I know not at what
moment Bonsall or myself may be
