[The sick] are fearfully down. Neither
poor Wilson nor Riley could bear the
meat, fever and incessive pain follow
a meal very limited in quantity and the
raw meat could hardly be borne by
even the stouter stomachs. I am cautious
in using the meat but sanguine as to
its good effects. We have not enough to
do more than sustain us, but, short as
the period is, it is a respite.

I in no time to burn, Hans is making a
walrus harpoon and line and
as soon as he and Myosu have freshened
up a little I will send them to the
hut ([Annoatok|Anaotok]]) in search of water cracks.
I am very hard worked, getting little
rest, and not grasefully employed for
people seem to thank me. My cooking
unfortunately shows itself in my smeared
journals. [ John and Bill, my two
villains need watching otherwise I have
no cares as a commander except for the
health of my party.]

The new tackle is finished Myosu
had lost his ussuk line upon the ice
berg but we supplied its place with a
light manila cord. The bone work of
the [Naulegeit?] Hans made from the rein
deer antlers which are abundant about
the hills. They rest tonight but start
tomorrow. [Our stock of beef cannot last
effectively more than three days.]
The sick in the least severe
cases are feeling the kind influences
of the new diet but Wilson and
