Dr Thornwell tells the following anecdote about a Baptist
Minister to show how little faith he puts in Ghosts &c
A Baptist preacher was once in a country which
believed strongly in Ghosts stories. After he heard a
wonderful account of one by a man the preach-
er said, "Well I know all good souls go to heaven when
they leave the earth, & when they get there, they never
want to leave there; & when one gets to hell he
has no permission to leave there; so none are
likely to come back to earth".

The anecdote related by Herodotus about
Croesus & Cyrus & Solon, in which Croesus [c??es] Solon
three times, may be found in Sermon on Mount P. 101
The story of Mungo Park, the great African traveller
who had such consolation in contempla-
ting the beauty of a small moss in the wilderness
as to be the means of saving his life. See Sermon on
the Mount P129

Mr Cohen tells the following anecdote: I was walking through
the field once in Arabia & a Mohammedean met me & asked me
Some questions about the Trinity. He said it can be shown there
ever existed a divisibility in the Godhead for a single moment, then there
cannot be a Trinity. Then he said "Christ said it is finished & gave up the
ghost." I asked him for his knife & cut a branch from a bush & asked him
what I cut? He said the branch. I told him I cut the Sun, which was
shining on it too, but could not take the Sun. So the Spirit never
left our Savior when he died. It was only his body said I give up the ghost
