Father to call home Rev. M.C. Briggs D.D.
for more than half a century a distinguished
citizen of this Commonwealth, an honored min-
ister of our Church and for Several years a
valued member of this Board of Directors
Therefore, Resolved.

That while we bow in Submission to the Provi-
dence that has bereaved us and the Church
and realize that our loss is our sainted
brothers eternal [gains] we record our pro-
found sense of the great loss we have sustained
in being deprived of the inspiring presence
and sagacious counsel of Dr. Briggs. He
was ever jealous of the honor of the Church &
its purity as well, alive and alert to all
its interests temporal and spiritual, [and?]
as a public spirited citizen toiled untiringly for
the civic and moral well being of the
Community His work survives him and
his gracious personalit, his Sterling char-
acter, his Commanding ability, and above
all his fervent piety will ever be held in
grateful & loving remembrance.

Resolved. That the above preamble & reso
lutions be spread upon the minutes of this
board, and transmitted to the family
of Dr. Briggs.

The resignation of H.D. Heacock as secretary, in conse-
quence of his purpose to go abroad for a year,
was accepted & Henry French was
was elected in his place.
