April 12, 1939

Pursuant to notices mailed and delivered
on April 12. 1939 to all the Directors of
the Retreat Association, ten days previous,

The meeting was held in the Ladies Parlor
of the Methodist Episcopal Church on the
12th day of April 1939.- at 5 oclock, P.M.

The following Directors responded present,
Rev. Follette, Rev. C. Draper. Mr De Forest. Mr
Chas, [Ormsted] & Rev. [Wm] Burchett.

The President Mr. [Sturlbert] said the meeting
was called for the purpose of considering the
application a demand on the Commission to
issue a license to Chas Varieu to sell (Drink)
Inttoxicating liquor & etc in the pool hall.

after considering the case thoroughly It was
moved by Mr Charles [Ormsted] and seconded
by Mr De Forest that the president and Secty
be authorized to join with the other parties
to start proceedings against the Violaters of the
laws governing the Drink question in the
City of Pacific Grove:

The board of Equalization held court in this
City, in the Council Chambers with Mr. Riley
the president of that board, who thoroughly
considered & went into the question by calling
a number of Witnesses, at last dicided a
license could not be granted, and liquor
cannot be sold.
