This Agreement made this Twenty-eighth day of January, Eight-
een hundred and Eighty-four (1884) between the Pacific Grove Re-
treat Association, a Corporation duly organized under the laws
of the State of California, the party of the first part, and J.
O. Johnson of the County of Monterey, and State of California,
the party of the second part. Witnesseth: that the said party
of the first part, for and in consideration of the covenants and
conditions hereinafter mentioned, and for other valuable consid-
erations, does grant unto the party of the second part, and to
his heirs and assigns forever, the exclusive privilege of erect-
ing suitable buildings for Livery and Feed Stable purposes, and
for the conducting of the business of a Livery and Feed Stable
on the Block of land known as the Stable Block, and bounded
northerly by the Light House Road, westerly by Forest Avenue,
southerly by Larel Avenue, and easterly by Fountain Avenue, in
First Addition to Pacific Grove Retreat. And it is further agreed
that the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns shall conduct
and manage said Livery and Feed Stable business according to the
rules and regulations of the party of the first part. Otis Gib-
son, Chas. Goodall, Robert McElroy, Frank F. Jewell, Henry B.
Heacock. Executive Committee, State of California, City and
County of San Francisco. S.S. On this 4th day of February, One
thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, before me, R. D. McElroy
a Notary Public, in and for the City and County of San Francisco,
personally appeared Otis Gibson, Chas. Goodall, Robert McElroy,
Frank F. Jewell and H. B. Heacock, personally known to me to be
the Executive Committee of the Pacific Grove Retreat Association,
the Corporation that executed the within instrument, and acknowl-
edged to me that such Corporation executed the same. In witness
whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Official
Seal, the day and year in this certificate first above writte.

Recorded at the request of J. O. Johnson, Feb. 12th 1884,
at 15 minutes past 9 A. M.

I, David Wallace, County Recorder in and for Monterey county,
State of California, do hereby certify the above and foregoing
to be a true and correct copy of the original as the same appears
of record in Book B. of Agreements at page 470 and that the same
has been compared by me with the original.
