so that those who came afterwards and
wanted to become involved would have all their writings,
and would be able to continue the scientific work
as those had done previously. They put everything they
saw and found into collections of works. In this way, it took them over 2,400 years
of continued labor and study until they acquired
the seven liberal arts, but they considered the effort to be
well worth it. For
they knew by their wit and by their clerical profession
all that happened on earth in the natural course of things,
when they wanted to attend to it.
And they were also not surprised when they came across
a marvel, in the heavens or on the earth. Because they knew
that it had come in the natural course of things, and they
loved God all the more when they saw such marvelous
works. And so they kept watch for many nights
with great joy and intent study. As a result, they
discovered very exalted matters, by which they improved
