that is called the pit and the land of perdition.
And so I tell you of this place, that it is full of fire and
burning sulpher. It is very hideous and stinking, full of filth
and all bad things. In one hour, anything that falls into it
will be melted by the the sulpher that burns continually
and melts, destroys, consumes, and burns everything.
Nor will this ever have an end, for the fire burns endlessly and forever.
Everything (see note) put into hell burns forever and is reborn
forever and can never die. For this place is of such
a nature that the more something burns, the longer it lasts.
In this place of hell are all the evils and those that belong to them.
Here death maintains his standard, that he
sends through the whole world to look for those
who are his, whether they meet it with joy or sadness.
All evil things are brought there. This place is named the
land of the dead, for the souls that are brought to that place
dwell there forever. For surely they all die while living,
and forever live while dying. Death is their
death and their sustenance. Death holds them
