these places also becomes as hot as fire.
If it should happen that the water exits from the earth
in some spot, it is all a-flame as it rises and boils,
just as though it were on fire. But the further away
it goes from that spot, the cooler and less burning
it becomes. And it may go so far that at the end
it becomes entirely cold again. For nothing is so
hot that it does not become cold, except only the fire
of hell, which burns continually and without end.
Inside the earth there are many other places that are
full of filthy, poisonous beasts, so that the water
which comes from those places and rises in various parts
of the earth becomes completely
poisonous, and anyone who drinks of it will
be seeking his own death. [rubric] About the various
fountains that rise up from the earth [/rubric]
Moreover, there are many fountains that
often change their colors and others from which
come miracles. But no one knows how this happens.
In the land of Samaria there is
one that changes its colors
