a griefz tourmens pour che que ilz leur remonsto

me fisrent les sains et les saintes qui souffrirent
mort et passion pour la loy de jhesucrist que ilz vo
loient exaultier Se y eult de telz philosophes qui
par leur sens prophetiserent le saint temps de la
venue du benoit ihesucrist. sicommme virgille le dist
Le quel fut au temps de cesar a rome dont plen
te de gens en furent depuis meilleurs que par

themselves with regard to Our Lord. In this way they came to understand
the truth and left behind the vanity of this world, which is worth so little,
to come into the joy which will never fail.
From this many notable philosophers died
wrongly and without reason, because they directly
confronted great lords and showed them
clear examples of their ill deeds, blaming them
for their bad treatment and exploitation of many people.
They preached to these lords rightness and truth.
and those who did not want to believe them (who were
ashamed of the accusations) threw them into
prison, where they caused them to die of
grave sufferings, all because the philosophers
reproached them with the truth, of which they were certain,
just as both male and female saints did
who suffered and died for the law of Jesus Christ, whom
they wished to exalt. And among these philosophers
were those who in their wisdom prophesized the holy times
of the coming of the blessed Jesus Christ. Among them
was Virgil. He lived in Rome during the time of Caesar. And
because of him, many people are better now
