In this high place -- or mountain -- a
very large fountain surges, with beautiful, clear
water. And above this fountain there is a tree,
large and marvelously beautiful, that one can see from far off.
The phoenix makes its nest and grave right in the
middle of this tree. But it makes it of spices of such
great scent that no one could find better.
Then it sits itself inside its nest, once it has
made everything perfect. It starts to move and to
flap its wings towards the sun with such abandon and for so
long that a great heat arises within its feathers, so that
they take flame and burn around it until it is
completely lit. And then the fire burns and consumes
everything into cinder. And from this cinder or
powder is reborn a living bird just like the one that had burned.
After the region of the phoenix is the realm of Damascus
where good fruits grow. And after Damascus may be
found the region of Antioch where there are camels
in great number. Then comes the country of Palatine,
then Samaria, and then Sebaste. After that is that Pentapolile,
where once were founded two powerful cities, one called Sodom
