now called England, it is said that there is a
fountain, with a flat stone near it. But when
the water spurts from this fountain onto the stone
then rain, winds, thunder, and lightning all
wondrously begin to rage. It is said that in
this country there is a manner of people who
have small tails on their backside. In addition, a type of people with horns
were seen in France in former times. Near Mount Montius you will find
many women who have mouths under their
chins that in some cases hang down as far
as their breasts. And in that place they
are considered beautiful. There are others who have
huge mouths on their backs and are bent over
like crooked staves, and the people who see
all these things often do not marvel at them
at all. Also in this country deaf and mute
people are often born, and those who are by
nature both men and women. Children are also often seen
to be come into the world either without
hands or without arms.
