IN THE NAME OF THE HIGHEST GOD, IN THE SUB-
sequent book which is now called
Synonyma: that is, many words
coming together into one meaning,
Isidore of holy memory, an
archbishop from Spain, introduces
the character of Man in the afflictions of the present
age, lamenting himself and almost flew
down into despair.
Meeting him, in a marvelous encountering, Reason
consoles with gentle moderation, and turns him away from the abyss
of despair towards the hope of forgiveness,
and as he avoids the fall and the course
of the unsteady world, Reason wondrously teaches
him to embrace the pattern of spiritual life,
then, elevating him exceedingly to the ascent of contemplation,
he leads everyone onto the pinnacle of perfection.
