Dear Family,
Got back today from a great week-end in Zurich. Herr Raatz a teacher here recommended hitch-hiking as a way a travel. So Bob Cullen and I hitch-hiked to Zurich. Never had any problem. Most people who picked us up were middle-aged business type men. Met some real nice people. Exhausing though. Had to walk a long way in cities to get to places where its easy & legal to stand. I doubt if I'll do it again. Bruce is getting his car next weekend.
We (Bob & I) are going up with him to pick it up in Cologne. Switzerland is tremendous. Beautiful country (Alps, lakes, rolling green fields). We took a tour to a Mt. Rigi in the Alps. Mark Twain wrote it is the most beautiful place he had seen. I agree weather could be better. It's wet & pretty cold but OK. Yes, Bob is Amy's beau. I really like the beer in Zurich. Travel books say its crummy but I like it alot (its s'posed to be weak) I got slightly affected by the beer Sat. night. I'm so rowdy (sp.) Not really Mom. Zurich has neat huge river in the middle. Arch is real old & neat. I like Switz better than Germ. so far. Slower pace. Anybody want a watch?
Krauters have one son, Fritz (22 yrs) works in Sttuttgart. So does Mr. Krauter. Mrs. Krauter born & raised in Beutelsbach. Her sister & brother live on the same street. She made Bob & I raspberry kuchen. Yum! They still very nice but it's kind of boring having to think of things to talk about all the time. I go about 2-3 times a week. I bought some good warm shoes with natural fur inside -- don't look great, but I like them (I also hate shopping) $23 [drawing of a shoe, with arrow to buckle] U.S. dollars. Nicht so cheap, but I don't know.
It's very hard to getting into a studying frame of mind, after going away on a weekend. I am having fun. We are taking a train to Rome. They pay for your fare back — give you a few days to come back.

I don't really have that much to say this week. I like my classes a little better. German teachers here are very nice. My Deutsch is getting better. Thanks for the letters. I have written every week.
I met Julie [Steinsmith?]. She's nice - a senior, I think. She bought of Saab. I bought a Swiss Army knife. Probly buy more off them. Who wants one?
I'm happy to hear that Sams doing good (or well). I'm sorry to miss Peggy. For exercise I play basketball & ping-pong mostly with Bob. In Köln (Cologne) Amy might meet us there. Hows the Vit. C working? I think I'm getting a cold - I have a sore throat. This watch Mom runs 5 min per 5 hrs fast. Its OK though. I'm not hinting for a Swiss watch. I don't need a good one. Tell hi to Leroy [Schmitz?] & [Schib?]. Keep the letters coming. Tell Jeff hes already henpecked (but slacks) Jeez Louise.
Love Anne
