Then indeed will you rise
above your desolation & the
garden of your heart shall
"blossom as the rose." To so many
you can speak a word for
Jesus--remember there are
souls " hungering & thirsting "
among the rich--so many that
have no one to tell them the secret
story of Jesus love, because they are rich
many shrink from telling them they are
sinners: Just the same in God's sight
& indeed more responsible because their
wealth places them in power. So in
your own sphere remember you now
have such an opportunity to tell what
the dear Lord has done for you & what he
will do for all who will trust & love
him. My heart has gone right out to you
from my own experience. I can now, & have
all these years spoken the words of love for
Jesus. Earnestly, affectionately, & sincerely your
old friend of forty years ago & more.

My dear Mrs. Stanford,

Each day, and every day
since Gov Stanfords death have I
tried to write. To day it is no easier
than the first day. Words seem
so cold where the heart is broken.
Tenderly our sympathy is with
you, and gladly would we say
or do anything to give a ray of
sunshine in your darkened
home. None but a widow knows
how terrible the "aloneness"--
your living rooms; your walks;
your drives; some favorite flower, or
