My Dear Mrs Stanford

Believe me I sympathize most
deeply in your late sorrow and
bereavement of your Honored husband
and our most lamented Senator
Stanford; whom the east claims
(as ours) as well as the west. --
my heartfelt sympathy has been
yours silently for years -- as I
