Description

Governor George Cooper Pardee (1857-1941) was a San Francisco native, raised in Oakland, educated at UC Berkeley, Cooper Medical College and the University of Leipzig in the German Empire. He joined his father's medical practice, specializing in eye and ear diseases. He became interested in politics and was elected mayor of Oakland, serving from 1893 to 1895. He received the Republican nomination for Governor of California in 1902 and won the election, serving as governor from 1903 to 1907.
