Blanche Louise (Bonestell) Whitwell (1857-1918), wife of William Scollay Whitwell, Jr., M.D. (1846-1903), who established a private sanatorium in San Mateo for treating mental diseases and in 1898 began practice in New York City with a private sanatorium in Fishkill-on-the-Hudson.

Mrs. Blanche Whitwell provided the funds for the W.S. Whitwell Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, in memory of her husband.
