Ella Reid Harrison

OverviewVersions

Description

Ella Spencer (Reid) Harrison (1867-1922) married in 1892 as the second wife of Ralph Chandler Harrison (1833-1918), California Supreme Court Associate Justice from 1890 to 1903. After her husband's death, Ella moved to Carmel and donated the funds to build a library in her husband's honor in Carmel. The Ralph Chandler Harrison Library was completed in 1828. Ella died when her Carmel home burned down, an ironic end since the couple's San Francisco home had also been destroyed in the fire of 1900.
