Description

Martha (Hubbard) Mason (1833-1902), wife of William H. Mason (1829-1918), who is listed as District Attorney in Humboldt county in 1872, then became a teacher in San Diego, and later the couple moved to Los Angeles where they both died and are buried. In the Jan. 17, 1885 edition of The Humboldt Times, there is an item suggesting William falsely represented himself as a lawyer: "W. H. Mason, who palmed himself off for a lawyer on the people of this county, and was elected District Attorney, about ten years ago, is teaching school in San Diego."
