Mrs. S. M. Bolles

OverviewVersions

Description

Sophia M. (Williams) Bolles (1836-1911) was the wife of Amos A. Bolles (1828-1918). Amos arrived in California in 1849, taking up mining in Downieville, then moving to Carson City and Virginia City in Nevada. Their first child was born in 1860 in Carson City. After building up a mining fortune the family moved to Oakland. In 1894 Amos retired to New London, Connecticut. Sophia died in Alameda county so it's likely they moved back to Oakland as they are both buried there.
