Margaret Cecilia Stewart Sherman (1827-1900) was the wife of John Sherman (1823-1900), Ohio politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1855-1861), U.S. Senate (1861-1877 and 1881-1897), and was U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1877-1881) and Secretary of State (1897-1898). He was the Chairman of the Republican Conference and President Pro Tempore of the Senate at the beginning and at the end of Leland Stanford's tenure in the Senate.
