Philip Lathrop Rowell (1885-1940) was the son of Timothy Bryant Rowell (1845-1916) and Bessie Champion (Lathrop) Rowell (1856-1885). His maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Brewster (Champion) Lathrop (1818-1895), maintained a correspondence with Charles G. Lathrop and Jane Lathrop Stanford regarding Lathrop family genealogy.
