Description

Joseph Lathrop (1731-1820) was born in Norwich, Connecticut, attended Yale College beginning in 1750 and graduated in 1754. He was a teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts, while pursuing theological studies and was ordained as a minister in 1756, almost immediately being called to become pastor of the Congregational Church in West Springfield. He held this position until his death in 1820, in the 65th year of his ministry. Many of his sermons were collected, published and widely distributed.
