Henry Clay Lathrop

Henry Clay Lathrop (1844-1899) was a younger brother of Jane Lathrop Stanford. He worked for the Central Pacific Railroad and became agent of the steamship line between Sacramento and San Francisco. He served as exalted ruler of the B.P.O.E. (Elks) Lodge of Sacramento. He resigned from his employment and lived his final 8 years with his sister. The Angel of Grief statue in the Stanford Arboretum was commissioned by Jane Stanford as a memorial to Henry.
