General Miles

Nelson Appleton Miles (1839-1925) served in the Civil War and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. From 1895 to 1903 he served as the final Commanding General of the U.S. Army before the position was abolished. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1892 for distinguished gallantry in the Civil War.

Nelson Appleton Miles (1839-1925) was a career military man who served in the Civil War where he advanced to the rank of Brevet Major General, earning the Medal of Honor. After the Civil War he became a Colonel in the Regular Army and achieved the rank of Lieutenant General and Commanding General of the United States Army. He fought in the Indian Wars and was Commanding General during the Spanish-American War.
