My dear Mrs. Stanford

The sad news of
your dear husband's
death reached me
through the papers
yesterday. Words can-
not express my
deep sympathy for
you in this new
affliction. I had
great hopes of his
recovery when you
left Washington
and looked forward

remarked this "Senator
Stanford is dead, but
he will live forever in
